“your Baby Can Read” Video, Is Anyone Impressed With This?
Just wondering if this is something worth using. My kids don’t watch much tv but when they do I would like it to be something educational. The shows I keep recorded for them are Dora, Diego, Little Einsteins and Planet Earth. Do you think “Your baby can read” is just as good or better? How long until you noticed they were actually learning stuff from the video? How long have you used it? Did your kids learn how to read with this video? Thanks!
I wondered about this myself after I saw the commercial yesterday. It looks possible to me but it also looks like something you could do yourself. Like if you take your toddler to the kitchen for milk, write “milk” on an index card and point to it every time you ask them if they want milk. They use something similar here at the daycare where I work to teach the children (toddlers) to recognize their own names.
I actually ordered “Your baby can read” I started playing the video for my daughter when she was 6 months (before that I didn’t let her watch TV) and buy watching that and showing her flash cards. By 11 months when I would show her the flash cards or when she would watch the video, when the word came up she would act out the word like clap, no, yes, arms up, arms down and that was when she was 11 months.
I still have her watch the videos everyday and she’s learning new words and acts them out and enjoys watching them. I like the product.
I see ads for the sale of these videos on tv pretty often. I have to question if they are real or not. they look real. I just don’t think it is that easy to teach an infant to read. My wife taught our grandson to read when he was almost 3. She had her own little system and it worked well with our grandson. He was way ahead when he started school. Our grandson is a very smart young man now in college making excellent grades. Maybe if the kids are really smart to start with it might work. with an average kid it might not. I just don’t know.
I don’t think children can learn to read just from a video. If you want them to learn how to read, then read to them a lot.
I think it teaches memorization not how to actually read.
ive seen these commercials too.. and i wonder ‘what’s the rush?’
