Just wondering if this is something worth using. My kids don’t watch much tv but when they do I would like it to be something educational. The shows I keep recorded for them are Dora, Diego, Little Einsteins and Planet Earth. Do you think “Your baby can read” is just as good or better? How long until you noticed they were actually learning stuff from the video? How long have you used it? Did your kids learn how to read with this video? Thanks!

My 3 1/2 years old boy knows the alphabet from A to Z and recognizes most of the letters sounds. I think I can start to teach him how to read. Which one is the best Reading Learning Program that can help me teach him to read?

Judging from the amount of homework questions and poorly worded nonsense on Books & Authors, I suggest that Harry Potter is self-serving, getting kids to only read Harry Potter books INSTEAD of the much better literature taught in school. What do you think? If you disagree, please explain why in detail.

Why are there kids in high schools who don’t know how to read? This doesn’t make sense to me. Unless of course they moved here from another country when they were already in their teens. But what about the kids who have lived here their whole life and still can’t read? I don’t get how they’re allowed to move from one grade to the next. Is this because of “No Child Left Behind”? If they can’t read, they should be “left behind” until they learn.

i am just wondering if there is a problem here. by age 5 my and my 9 y.o sis could read. but yet my smallest sister cannot read at all!!! cannot spell simple words.
so this summer i would like to jump start that. can i have some help. some tips with teaching kids to read. any sites that will help me or help her? thanks!

She wants to learn how to read Arabic letters with proper tajweed/pronounciation. I am going to a weekend Quran class and I am learning, so I know a little bit. My husband told me to buy a Qaida for her, and everytime I learn something, to teach her. Is it okay to give her a Qaida? She is around my age, 22, and I don’t want to offend her or embarrass her for giving her a Qaida, which is generally what kids learn from. But, this is how I learned to read Quran too, just last year.

I saw this just this last weekend (may 2008) and the whole subject of the commercial was like this “Parents. You’re busy. There’s not enough time in the day. How are you supposed to have time to teach your kid to read??? Well listen to this, we have this special new thing… play these tapes when your child is sleeping and he will learn how to read!”
Now I admit I was tired when I saw the commercial but I SWEAR that is what it was. I’ve googled it and searched youtube but can’t find it with my keywords.

by the way, I don’t want it I think it’s pretty pathetic if a parent won’t take the time and responsibility and teach their child to read. Afterall, what else are you “too busy” to do with your child….. sad sad world.
